[Cain's first instinct is to say, because you're wrong. Maybe it's a moment of maturity — either to recognize an unnecessary insult, or to understand that Noctis isn't seeing the world the same way he is.]
[ That mild agitation fuels his texts, causing him to type and send them faster without realizing that the admission itself is perhaps more blunt than he wants it to be. ]
W/e they prob have books about Mars and solar systems, I'll look it up later
He's had time. Days, in fact, a span that had been more than enough to take down Niflheim strongholds but which apparently hasn't even been sufficient enough for him to read a book. He complains to Cain about research and media from his own home world as if he has a right to, unaware what's on offer when he's barely mustered the energy to do more than lie in his bed.
All he's managed to do in the name of his own goal is get into a fight defending it, taking out a sliver of his anger on Cain for... what? Knowing what he wants?
Talking about one problem has created another, and he hasn't even tackled the first one. Without Gladio, Ignis, or Prompto it feels... insurmountable. And with every passing minute he's here he can only assume their own dread is growing back on Eos, his country's situation is worsening, and his response to that has been to let it fester.

Different words for the same thing, I'll call yours a planet if you call mine a star. That's a fair deal
You gonna give me a hard time if I ask what a solar system is too?
no subject
[... if he was Abel, he might pursue this. But why should he bother?]
fine, whatever
solar system is just a close group of a bunch of planets and usually like one star
i dropped out and even i know that
[Well, because it's extremely relevant to his life, but that's beside the point.]

[ Why can't anyone mentally accept the idea of him living in a super-heated gas giant. ]
Can't believe you called ME obnoxious
I was top of my class and we didn't cover it, want me to quiz you about Eos next so you can fail all of it?
no subject
ok
we don't gotta talk to each other, you know
you texted me first

That stops him, and he genuinely doesn't know what to think of Noctis's response. It feels like a trap to pursue it, so he doesn't.]
what does it mean if they don't have a book about eos?
no subject
You planning to study up on it fsr?
no subject
dropout, remember
no subject
Then ig it doesn't mean anything for you since you weren't gonna read it anyway
And for me it just means I wasn't supposed to end up here
no subject
doesn't matter what was supposed to happen, you're here now

But tbh you're right.

find anything out?

Who knows, maybe Mars will end up on the destination list
why are you causing me emotional damage
mars isn't some undiscovered place
nothing new to do there
[And it would be too good to be true, wouldn't it? ... Never mind he isn't sure it'll even be the same world.]
you tried anything with your ship yet?
i have to put the emotions in brackets since he won't SAY THEM!!
Got it running at least. A Host offered to help but idk. I wanna decide where I'm going w/o running it through a middle man
Yours still good?
[ read: was there any lingering damage that I inadvertently caused..... ]
it'll take them 84 years to talk about their feelings...
since this ship's going to uncharted worlds
[Sounds like a library trip is due... ugh.]
yeah it's fine, don't worry about it
a host? what's that?
no subject
You saw that weird bird when you showed up right? Those are them, the machines crawling all over the ship
[ His word choice might give a small hint as to how he feels about them, too. ]
Was already planning to do some research if you want me to report back. We can call it even on the punch
no subject
they're pretty advanced, huh?
kinda freaks me out
but yeah, fine
let me know if you learn anything
[A tenuous truce, maybe.]
no subject
Yeah tell me about it. I'm expecting to wake up with one in my room getting ready to attack me or smth
Anything I'm looking up besides Mars? Is there a city or country
